First a Wanted AD: I a still looking for brake levers, shift levers, front derailleur and wheel hubs. If anyone is looking to sell at a reasonable price I am interested. This is Kyle's Pinarello Montello. Does it get better then an Italian frame with the chrome under the paint?? The Pinarello had done to it what we all did in the 1990's by putting integrated shifting on it. I did the same to my Trek 560 Pro in the 1990's. I have spent a long time looking for original components for the Pinarrello, I have had no luck so the new plan is to go all Campagnolo from the era which I think may be cooler anyways.
The Pinarello will be getting new paint and of course the usual new bearings, cables, cable housings and tape. From there it will be interesting to see what we can find for parts. I look forward to giving the Pinarello a spin before shipping it back home.
In the photos below you can see the parts that where put on the Pinarello. Shimano Tri-Color such nice parts from my era in the 1990's, these where components guys like me loved because higher end where not in my budget. So Cool!

With the frame stripped of the components you can see its not in bad shape at all, just wear from use and a lot of sun. That means it was well loved!

I wish I remembered to take a photos of the frame after the paint was stripped. The frame is all chrome. Before the new paint I polished all the chrome that was going to be viable. Also before paint since the frame is all chrome I very lightly with a very soft media I blasted the frame just to give the paint a little better hold to the chrome.
I am super happy with the results of the new paint. I catch my self just staring at the frame for a for minutes instead of working. Looking at the photos I still need to put a white pinstripe on the chrome line by the bottom bracket and fill the seat stay end engravings with red paint.

The headset and bottom bracket where a little rough to start. The headset has kind of a different surface finish with lacquer over it. That finish as damaged and to far gone so I decided to go the high polish route. I am thrilled how the headset turned out!! I love how it looks with the new paint!! The bottom bracket turned out great and I was able to keep the factory finish. I love this stuff!

I want to say first I am very proud of the results of the stem. The stem took a lot of work with fine hand files to removes scratches and rough spots form the bike being turned upside down on the ground for work. I worked through some scratches and gouges, then used very fine sand paper and then a few hours on the polishing wheels! I couldn't be happier with the stem!! I left some scratches on the part of the stem that is not seen when in the steer tube, I did not want to change the tolerances on that section. The stem had a seat binder bolt for the stem clamp so I went through my bolts draw and found a nice replacement. The handlebars didn't take as much work and turned out nice. Installed I love how the stem looks with the headset and new paint!

We found a replacement crank with the Pinarello panto-graphing. This is the perfect crank for the Pinarello! I love it! I did lot of hand work in cleaning and polishing the crank. I did hand work on the crank to save the factory finish. The crank has a few spots from use that are not bad at all but it sure looks good installed!!

The brake calipers are Campagnolo. I sent them through the sonic cleaner and then spent a good deal of time hand polishing the calipers. The calipers where missing the rubber o-ring that goes around the adjustment barrel. I trip to my favorite hardware store and I have replacement grommets.
I go to my favorite hardware store. It is one of those hardware stores that have been in a small downtown store front for 100 years. The stuff in the store is piled floor to ceiling and they have all kinds of cool stuff that have been there for ever. The wood floors are worn from 100 years of years of footsteps and every step creaks and makes a noise. The people are so helpful in places like this. They know most everything and know right where everything is in the store. So much better then the big box stores.
After that little nostalgic ad back to the brake calipers. The hand work on the calipers turned out fantastic! I sit on my stool way to long just look at the calipers isntalled with everything else!

This is my favorite rear derailleur of them all. How can you not love the Campagnolo script inside the black background with brushed alloy all around? Oh, and it function pretty well too! The rear derailleur was already in fantastic shape. Just a little cleaning, lubricating and light hand polishing and it was ready to go!
