A few weeks ago I had Joel's completely original and untouched Schwinn Super Sport in the shop for a preservation. This Super Sport was in unused condition with just a lot of storage dust and dirt. The Super Sport is really in unused condition. There are no paint chips, the decals are perfect, the alloy rims look like they have never been used. The reflectors are perfect and it still has the front and rear reflectors. The Super Sport even still has the pop bottle generator and rear and front lights. The plastic chrome on the lights is in perfect condition, no pitting. Even the original vinyl handlebar tape is perfect and unfadded which is rare.
There was a lot of storage dust and dirt. Pretty tough storage dirt in some places. I carefully cleaned all the areas and then gave the red paint a very very light hand polishing. The alloy and chrome parts cleaned very nice and has an unused finish. I treated the tires to look better but if the Super Sport was going to be rode they would need to be replaced. The Super Sport is not going to be rode. The original Brooks saddle was missing and an 80's plastic seat was in its place. Joel chose a Brooks custom saddle that looks perfect for the Super Sport.
I have restored thousands of bicycles and have seen probably millions. This is by far the most unused or almost NOS Super Sport I have seen. It was great to see and great to be able to remove the years of storage.

Excellent job as usual! In addition to being extremely clean, this bike is unique in that it is a 1974 model Super Sport, which was not listed in the Schwinn catalog that year. The '74 Super Sport also had a couple of interesting and unique components. If you or the owner would like to know more I recommend posting on the Lightweight Schwinn Bicycles section on the CABE, which is currently the place to get the most accurate and in-depth information about vintage Schwinn Lightweights: http://thecabe.com/forum/index/lightweight-schwinn-bicycles.56
