This is Bill's Trek 2300, it has had quite a few transformations over its life.  I think it originally had down tube index shifting.  Bill wanted a triple crank on the Trek 2300 around 2011, a bike shop put a triple crank on with triple integrated shift/brake levers.  This set up did not work and later Bill brought it to another shop and they replaced the triple crank with a compact ten speed double crank and a ten speed front derailleur but left the 8 speed rear and derailleur on it along with the 8 speed triple shift/brake levers.  This set up really did not work.  Can you imagine a bike shop thinking an 8 speed rear and a ten speed front with 8 speed shift levers would be a good idea??

That is when Bill brought me the Trek 2300.  Bill really loves his trek 2300 and I can see why, it is a great bike.  He wants to get it riding correctly again and I know why, I have had bicycle that I loved so much that I would do anything to keep them going.

The Trek 2300 has really nice Tri-Color Shimano hubs and brake calipers, those are staying.  The Trek 2300 Composite is in great shape so that won't be a problem.

I wish we could have had a few of the original parts to go back on the Trek 2300 but we do not.  The plane was to go all ten speed Shimano 105 components.  We would keep the current FSA Gossimer ten speed crank.

 The new components are Shimano ten speed Shimano 105 Brake/Shift levers, Shimano 105 Ten Speed front derailleur, Shimano 105 ten speed chain, Shimano 105 rear derailleur, a Shimano SLX cassette with 12-36t cogs.  Along with that the Trek 2300 will also receive new handlebar tape and new gel pads to go under the handlebar tape.

The 36t cog will give a good low gear for Bill when he goes riding in California, with the front 34 chain ring and the 36t cog in the rear it will give Bill a gear at about 24 gear inches.

 The Trek 2300 turned out fantastic, it shifts like butter and rides very smooth.  I like the old Trek composite frame with the natural carbon fiber tubes.  I think Bill will be very happy with the results and it is a night and day difference from the old set ups that did not work at all.  The before and after photos don't show much of a difference but the difference was all in the ride.

The weather is bad here again so I took the photos indoors on a cloudy day.
